Latest Tweets and new logo

Today I added a script that will show my latest Tweets on the blog's home page. I did not code this script, It was done by Remy Sharp, it find it very easy to use, if you are looking for a similar script you can download it atremy sharp's b:log

I also changed the header of the blog from haruhi suzumiya to myself wearing my Stormtrooper armor.

Downloadable videos!

Hey! today at work I was trying to watch a video from my Video gallery but I couldn't because the connection has a proxy that blocks youtube. So today after watching house which btw was awesome I decided to code a little bit to fix that problem.

So now when I add a video to the gallery, the scripts automatically downloads a copy of the video and stores it on the server. the benefits that it has instead of using a proxy is that the content its already downloaded on the server, instead of having to wait for the proxy to download the data and then wait for the data to download to my computer.

I also consider that its a nice feature for the gallery, because we all have seen videos on youtube that which we could take with us to all places. And even do there are a gazillion sites that provided that service is easier if the gallery already has that feature.

Since I will be working on weekends I will try to find some time during the week to code little features like the one above. I'm still going to have one free day a week, in that day I will try to work twice as hard to make sure the scripts gets to its public beta version as soon as possible.

I also need to translate the interface and the dated URLs to Spanish and French because my other blog and sites are in Spanish and my other blog is going to be on French.

Photos Completed!

The photos section of the site is completed, I added the ability to post comments and rate the pictures in a scale of 1 to 5 stormtroopers helmets, one been the lowest mark and 5 the highest. I also fix the thumbnails, now the function resize the picture proportionally taking into account the dimensions of the original picture instead of just resizing it to a fixed size. The result is better quality thumbnails.

Since spam boots were spamming the comments and I don't want to put a CAPTCHA because I find them annoying, I decided to get a database of know spamming boots to filter the good comments from spam. The data base I got it in CSV from stopforumspam and migrated it to SQL. I also make a boot that will download the CSV DB weekly and migrated it to SQL in order to have an updated protection against spam.

Now I'm going to start coding the videos section of the site, since the videos are going to be hosted on youtube and the code is going to be very similar to the photos section I expect to finish it today.

But since we all know most the the time laziness has the power so I may not be able to complete it...

Crappy thumbnails...

I noticed an error with thumbnail function of the Photos, the thumbnails are horrible, the picture loses its form. The problem is that the function resize the picture to a given dimension with out caring about the size of the original picture which obviously causes the picture to deform. I intend to fix that over the weekend but I may as well find some time during the week and fix it.

I had the intention of adding the ability to comment pictures today but I'm too tired to do it, so I will do it tomorrow morning.

Also the quality of the pictures are really crappy, the camera I'm using right now its a Kodak EasyShare z7590, which is a really peace of crap, interesting enough when I buy it on 2006 I was really happy with it. I'm hoping to fix that really soon by getting another camera.

I'm planning on getting the Sony DSC-HX1 the thing that I like the most about this camera is the 10fps burst mode. Originally I was planning on getting the Sony ? A850 DSLR camera but it has a maximum of 3 fps, so even do the DSC-HX1 is not an SLR camera it wins me because of the 10fps and that I do not know how to use the SLR functions, and even do I may learn the DSC-HX1 has many like SLR features. Photos at 85 %

The Photos section of the blog is at 85% progress, right now is in working conditions, in fact there is already some photos on the gallery. The 15 % remaining consist of the ability to post comments on each picture and the ability to rate them. The ability to post comments I believe I would be able to finish it today, as for the possibility of rating them would have to wait until the next weekend.

In the meantime you could watch the pictures that I have uploaded to the photo gallery. Right now there are only tree main categories; Mexico City, FanForce and Demotivations.
